Flavius Aetius was born around 390 CE in Dorostotum on the Danube in Moesia (now Silistra, Bulgaria).

Origins and coming to power
The mother was a Roman from a wealthy family from Italy. Father Flavius Gaudentius (Flavius Gaudentius) made a career in the Roman army.
